Fortitude

Initially the talents of Jamie Simond, Cinque Cullar, Leon "Rock" Guyton and Teddy Jackson brought them together to sing as a group for a special event at a small church on Chicago's Southside. After an electrifying performance that afternoon and a standing ovation from the small, packed church, they went back to their individual lives. Jamie continued as youth minister and worship leader at his church. Cinque went back to college at Alabama State University. And Rock and Teddy continued to write songs for other artists. But, little did they know, divine destiny had been engaged and was at work for the talented quartet.

In 1998, an independent label approached Rock and Teddy about developing a gospel project. In response, they contacted Jamie. Jamie contacted Cinque. They all agreed to come together again. But this time it would be to enrich the dynamics of their vocal harmonies and to expand their musical capabilities for a recording project. The result of their efforts was immediate and gratifying, gaining the positive attention of industry professionals and music lovers alike. As NuWave, their freshman release, "So Grateful To You" (Imani Faith) garnered a 1999 Stellar Award nomination for Best New Artist.

Now called Fortitude, their stunning harmonies immediately set them apart. The group delivers insightful, spiritually inspiring lyrics with musical arrangements that arrest and captivate the attention of the urban climate. With their own special offering of traditional and contemporary gospel music infused with pop, R& B and funk flavors, Fortitude gives nothing less than a non-stop, unapologetic, participatory worship experience-served urban style.
