Becoming recognized as a true creative force in Chicago drumming and beyond, Darren Garvey has made a name for himself through his involvement in a variety of projects and genres. Garvey performs with the Andreas Kapsalis Trio, Buddy Nuisance, Cameron McGill, Lindsay Anderson, Ernie Hendrickson and W.W.Lowman.
In recent years, Darren Garvey has travelled to the Sundance Film Festival for the world debut of the documentary Black Gold to which his percussion, mallet, and mbira playing grace the soundtrack. He has been featured on NPR's Eight-Forty-Eight with Steve Edwards as a part of the Andreas Kapsalis Trio, has performed at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, and in April 2004 Garvey performed with musicians in jazz clubs and on the streets of Havana, Cuba.
Darren continues to tour the country with the Andreas Kapsalis Trio and teaches privately at the North Shore School for the Arts. As a multi-instrumentalist and composer, Garvey is entering the studio to work on a solo record through the winter of 2007-08. He has studied under Glenn Kotche, Michael Zerang, and William Moersch, among others.
