| This avant-garde Chicago jazz percussionist and composer moved to Chicago in the late '80s and has cultivated a small group of comrades with whom he appears fairly regularly - including Chicagoans Jim Yanda (guitar), Larry Kohut and Noel Kupersmith(bass), Ryan Shultz (bass trumpet), Chuck Burdelik (saxophone) and others. These folks were all on his 1990 album, All of the Above (Southport). With Schultz, Kupersmith, and reedist Paul Scea, he released the recent Removable Media (Southport, 1998) under the name Damon Short - Paul Scea Quartet. Chicago Reader jazz critic Neil Tesser calls him "long on variety, virtuosity, and well-grounded adventurism; miss him at your own risk."
