Nestled amidst German stein-ville, this country/bluegrass live venue is home to cheep beer specials – $2 PBR tall boys – and patrons with an affinity for 1950s nostalgia fashions. Nearly every night the stage plays host to a touring or local act, when not celebrating odes to Johnny Cash or open mic sessions.

Horseshoe pulls its décor from a faux Texas saloon, dousing the place in faded grey wood, red vinyl seat cushions and walls of window shutters while a newly appointed big-screen TV and row of booths hold up bigger parties in the rear.

The way of BBQ, smoked meat baskets hold the popular vote, with full and half slabs of ribs starting at $14, accompanied by a pickle, Texas toast and two sides of your choice – beans and slaw fare, though the jalapeno corn bread muffins bring a unique flavor.

All things considered, this is no rough-and-tumble, whiskey-swilling joint. Come the summer months, its street side floor-to-ceiling windows bring balmy evening chic, even with constant cheap beer and sloppy BBQ sauces slingin’ about. There may be a punk band from time to time, but it’s of the string and heartache ilk.
