It's not often that one can find "A Queer Guide to the Golden Girls," Dr. Seuss, classic books that cost 10-percent off the cover price and a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf dedicated entirely to leather in a single bookstore, but Unabridged manages to do it all. While the shop specializes in gay and lesbian literature, the two-story space bridges the usual bookstore fare that make literati swoon with a quirky approach to categorizing texts such as "quotes, toasts and anecdotes" and "Madonna's all-time favorites."

The sale book section contains hundreds of handpicked gems that are sold at 70-percent off the retail price, and the volume of the basement-level travel section rivals the size of Paris Hilton's ego. Unfortunately, the lesbian section—comprised of the requisite Southern, mystery and stream-of-consciousness books—pales in comparison to the vast collection of home decorating books and gay erotica.

Unabridged prides itself on being a neighborhood bookstore. The knowledgeable staff scrawls amusing recommendations on index cards posted throughout the store, and kids ages 3-6 are welcome to enjoy a free public story hour every Tuesday morning throughout the school year.
