Editorial Review of Thai Grocery

NOW CLOSED...

Formerly: Jammed into the back of this tiny Thai grocery store is an old-school kitchen, complete with hundred-year-old pots that pump out some of the most delicious take-away food we've tasted. Though there are no tables, you'll be hard-pressed to make it out the door before you devour a basket of grandma's sweet fried spare ribs and dozens of Thai-fried bananas. While your whole tilapia fish is being fried, make sure to browse through the crammed racks of bamboo steamers and shelves packed with containers of pure palm sugar.

There are several coolers of fish on ice (headless shrimp caught our eye), with a few out-of-place finds like Cafe du Monde coffee from New Orleans and New Zealand kiwi mussels. We also happened upon the delightful little treat of star gooseberries (tiny berries covered in sugar with a hit of chili and salt), but it's the piping hot sour curry with shrimp, bitter melon and pork ribs that keeps our mouths drooling. Make sure to ask for a sample if you're uncertain what the goods will taste like. The happy-go-lucky chef is delighted to clue you in.
