What to expect: Two weeks of poetry slam competitions, plus screenings, workshops, panels, readings, a "haiku deathmatch" and more at various venues around the city (mostly at Columbia College). Contact shadell@youngchicagoauthors.org to buy tickets for most events.
Why to go: It's the largest event of its kind in the world, and it's celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

February 20, 6 p.m.: Viewing of "Louder Than A Bomb" documentary at Film Row Cinema (see the trailer); $25
February 22-28, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. daily: Preliminary Bouts at 623 S. Wabash and 1104 S. Wabash; $3 for students, $5 for adults
February 24-27: College Slam at 618 S. Michigan and 1104 S. Wabash; $3 for students, $5 for adults
March 1, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.: Semi-Finals at Steppenwolf Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted; $5 for students, $10 for adults
March 3, 7:30 p.m.: Encyclopedia Show; $6
March 6, 6 p.m.: Finals at Vic Theatre, 3145 N. Sheffield
