Shabazz Palaces seemed to come out of nowhere. Their 2011 album Black Up was an interstellar leap from the norm—with its blossoming synths, wormhole loops, and striking, almost vindictive, narratives. In other words it was a more bugged out version of Blowout Comb. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a follow-up, but with a group like Shabazz Palaces it’s best just to be patient and let it grow organically. Their set at the The Shrine, however, might be a perfect opportunity for them to offer a glimpse into what's to come. (J. Min)
