With the release of his fourth studio album, Simon Green (aka Bonobo) has taken a much-needed step away from his roots in the downtempo scene. Black Sands certainly has its flashback moments, but for the most part it is a nice departure in style with its haunting blend of live instrumentation and whimsical vocals. Songstress Andreya Triana steps in where Bajka left off, and the result is an undeniable display of musical synergy. Triana's smoky voice is both tender and piercing, and Green, like the mad scientist he is, lays down a perfect soundscape for her to explore her full vocal range. For Bonobo's show at the Metro, you can expect both Triana as well as a live band, which ought to give fans the full breadth of what Green is capable of. Download a free song off the new album here.
