After the passing of J Dilla in 2006 and then the passing of Baatin in 2009, it seemed like Slum Village was destined to take a fall. But after all they've been through, remaining members T3 and Elzhi have pushed forward with a new album entitled Villa Manifesto ... The LP. The project, slated for August release, celebrates its former members. J Dilla appears on five tracks (producing on one and rhyming on four), and Baatin is featured on the lead single "Lock It Down" (available for free here). It goes without saying that losing two vital members of your core group can hinder a performance, but as of late Slum V has done a good job of filling in the void by having a number of guests accompany them on stage including Illa J (J Dilla's brother) and Aaron Abernathy aka AB. No one knows for sure who will be with T3 and Elzhi for the Chicago stop of their promotional tour, but you can bet they'll have more than enough to bring down the Double Door. Opening will be Que Billah, 80's Babies, Crown Nation and DJ Rude One. (J. Min)
