As evidenced by Steve Nash, poutine and nationalized health care, Canada has a heck of a lot to offer. So when a band like Plants and Animals gets widespread recognition across the country (shortlisted for the 2008 Polaris Music Prize and nominated for a 2009 Juno Award), it clearly deserves some notice south of the border. The Montreal group's latest, La La Land, continues its classic-rock aesthetic, though with a "bigger" sound than the previous, folkier Parc Avenue. Don't worry about the songs being too "Canadian," either - everyone can relate to the chunky groove and crooned vocals of "Tom Cruz." (Ben Rubenstein)
