Chicago's own Bumpus has been a mainstay in the local funk scene for well over a decade now. Its sound has been compared to stalwarts like Sly & The Family Stone and The Meters, but over time (and especially over the last two years) the group seems to have settled into a comfortable groove of its own. Part of that success can be attributed to the band's willingness to let its members branch out and explore their own sounds, which is what this show at Martyrs' is all about. Bumpus will be bringing together (and headlining) a set that will feature former members and their respective bands, one of which includes the Orwell-inspired funkanauts Terrible Spaceship. The night's been aptly christened "6 Degrees of Bumpus." (J. Min)
