Christopher Owens and JR White's (yup, these Girls are boys) mélange of Elvis Costello swagger and California D.I.Y. pop doesn't necessarily change the game, but the strung-out chemistry of "Hell Hole Ratrace," heavily doped in handclaps, tambourines and a Pavement guitar explosion – "I don’t want to die without shaking up a leg or two/Yeah I wanna do some dancing, too" – is a genuine breakthrough sing-along that caused this show to reach sold-out status quickly.
