Located just beyond the entrance of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Hard Drive has the distinct feel of the Sunset Strip. But iPods replace slot machines at this high-energy baby of A-list nightlife pioneers Jon Landan and Ryan Golden (of Alife Group). Technology puns are inevitable (download Chicago's newest clubbing experience!), but backed by actual technology via a solid sound system and unmatched VJ setup. Ditch a night of MTV in your living room: VJs select from more than 7,000 music videos, projected onto eight hi-definition plasma screens. There's quite the spotlighted dance area, thanks to the glass dome above, complemented by intelligent and color kinetic lighting.
Though the club is open nightly, it's Thursday through Saturday that truly count. These are the nights with the projections, the dancing til four, the debauchery. Fashion-Forward Thursdays are packed with monthly fashion shows and glam events; Flirt Fridays feature a different guest host or local celebrity; Saturdays go Hi-Fi, compliments of a 5 a.m. close time.
The menu features a mix of bar and breakfast food. Served late into the night, you can nosh on potato skins, mini-burgers and slices of breakfast pizza paired with mimosas. Way beyond the dance floor sit the hotel's rooms, should the late hour feel tiring…or frisky.
