In a galaxy far, far away (ok, Avondale) is Galaxie, a multi-medium class and workshop space that offers tutelage on a variety of offbeat and insane topics, but particularly dancing and the fine arts (like the fine art of book-binding). Other classes focus on Body Work and Martial Arts, and they even have a general 'Spring Break Camp' for kids. Galaxie's outstanding mission is to provide a world of inspiration—from teacher to pupil and back again—to adults and children alike, and a means of expression to allow that inspiration to take root in the real world. Via music, movement, fine art, health and general well-being, Galaxie aims to provide a service for the people of Chicago, a means for bettering their lives in incredibly genuine and significant ways. Doesn't that just warm your heart?
According to the website, if you have an idea for a class or a workshop that's brilliant enough, they'll use it. No word back yet on our "Sleeping in on Weekends" class idea, but our fingers are crossed.
