Editorial Review of Debonair Social Club

Located in the historic Flat Iron building in Wicker Park, Debonair Social Club somehow blends art, dance, rock and fashion all under one roof that mixes a hip, young club scene with an old-timey gentleman's social club. The latter is all thanks to the decor: black is the main color here, with button-leather seating areas and a red-lacquered bar setting the scene upstairs. Adding a more modern flair are the video screens that display titillating artwork throughout the club and a red-lit screen behind the dance floor. Downstairs has more of a gritty basement feel, with red LED lights surrounding the room, low ceilings, a 30-foot long bar, a second DJ booth and private seating for guests who want to truly feel like VIPs.

Music also adds to Debonair's draw. The club has welcomed guests like The Cool Kids, Steve Aoki and Felix Da House Cat, but is best known for resident DJs Jordan Z and the Dark Wave Disco Crew. If you're a hip rocker that can hold your own on the dance floor, you'll love the dark, electro and rock-influenced sounds often played here. You'll also want to stop by on the last Tuesday of each month, when Scott Lucas of Local H and friends perform songs (there are DJs, too).

Debonair is often a mix of condo-inhabitants looking for a nearby place for a drink, hipsters rocking out to the music and fashion-forward individuals working their latest look. There's no dress code here, but no matter which scene you prefer to associate with, walk like you're working the room and dress your best. Though the affordable Sunday Rock Star Brunch has been discontinued, at least the club's "Startenders" still serve up decently priced drinks that will rarely set you back more than $10.
