Folks on the South and Southwest sides don't need to travel all the way to Rush Street just to go dancing. Instead, they can just visit this enormous, three-level club, popular with locals, budget-conscious club-goers and, especially, the 18-and-over crowd.
Located across the street from Mi Tierra restaurant, Volkan is separated into three rooms, each of them with a different feel and style of music. One room is dedicated to hip-hop, reggaeton, and funk, while another offers fans of rock en espanol a place to hang out. Both rooms bookend a massive main floor, complete with a stage for live acts, an enormous dance floor, and state-of-the-art lighting. Volkan addresses the normal concerns of an 18-and-over nightclub by enforcing a strict dress code: no sneakers, Timbaland boots, or other "street gear" popular with gangs is allowed. Rental sneakers and other attire are available from the coat check attendants. The cover charge is usually a flat $5 for men and women before 10 p.m., which gives attendees more money to spend on drinks.
