Editorial Review of Wild Rover

Do you know what we hate about the Clark/Petersen/Ashland/Paulina/Elmwood intersection just north of Andersonville? Everything, and that's just to start. Most of all, though, we hate how incredibly confusing it is, especially behind the wheel of a car, and how it's so much easier to get lost here than it is even in the Bermuda Triangle. Hence the reason we saw Amelia Earhart hanging out at the Wild Rover, along with the Lindberg baby and Anastasia the lost princess. They said they were trying to get to Target when they got lost in the annals of history. Frankly, we were lucky to get out of there ourselves.

Good thing it was worth getting in. On the one hand, Wild Rover (formerly known as Egan's Tavern) isn't anything special so far as bars go. It doesn't have a fancy visual design or uber-hip indie-pop pumping out of the loudspeakers (unless that's what you want; the always-reliable internet jukebox is on hand here). But what it does have is that friendly neighborhood atmosphere, offering a quaint and comforting place to tip back a few.

Also, Loyola students, take note: Beers are so cheap you'll freak (kind of the alcoholic version of Jimmy John's motto) at $2.75 for domestic and $3.75 for imported. And oddly or fantastically enough, depending on how early you like to 'get your drink on,' the bar opens at 7 a.m. every day but Sunday. That's probably church time.

If you do stop by, rest assured you won't regret it. Oh, and say hi to Amelia for us.
