If the last decade taught us anything, it's that when it comes to electronics, companies best make it touchable. That is the crux of this new
Lakeview lounge's "mixology meets technology" philosophy, as partner Vaughan Palelei explains. The spot (in the former Bungalow space) offers 100,000-and-counting ways to get a drink without the need for a server.
Unfortunately, the web-based system is overloaded with dozens of "Jagerbomb" entries, hinting at the club atmosphere Palelei and DTX technologies are targeting. Add to that the fact that the handful of tables equipped with the screens are being booked a month out on weekends, and there's a bottle-service button that defeats the purpose entirely, and you begin to worry that gimmickry could overtake this place before you get to touch a button.
Fortunately, there's a non-reso, large-size version of the technology commandeering the back of the bar that gets everyone in on the action. And when touched by the proper digits, the social tweaks are a lot of fun: you can order a drink by mood (we recommend the Bitch Slap) for another table, play spin the bottle, go in on the bid-powered jukebox, and try a chat system without a terms of service agreement.
