Did you know that the number one Golden Tee bar in the Midwest is right in Lakeview? This video game version of real golf is common in sports bars, but the guys at Tavern 33 seem to have a monopoly over Chicagoland Golden Tee-lovin' boozehounds. But there's more than just video games here, even if you can't always tell. Drink specials happen every night, even on the weekends. Get wasted on Friday night with $5 Long Islands or $5 Sex on the Beach, $3.50 well liquor and $4 UV shots (that's flavored vodka and red bull). Expect reasonably priced, domestic beers on tap like Bud and Miller, sports on the tube and a neighborhood vibe throughout this dive bar.
Unlike swankier, overpriced bars in this hood, Tavern 33 caters to those who like to keep bar tabs smaller but drink larger. "Wishbone, Whole Foods, Starbucks, SuVan's and Frasca employees all come by Tavern 33," says bartender Anna Livermore. "We're not pretentious; we're a real neighborhood bar." If you think about beer in terms of quality over quantity, sample the fine bottled selection that includes 312, Fat Tire and Magners.
Another standout feature is the jukebox. Patrons can download any song they want from the Internet (for a fee). If you're craving some unknown indie band, find it online and download away. For those who aren't wild about music, there are free darts in the back. Looking for some brain food while you kill those brain cells with alcohol? Check out the trivia game, another fine video game at this bar. With all these distractions, you won't even notice the crusty red walls or just how very dark it is inside this place.
