Are you fed up with all those loud, crowded bars where you can't even hear your friends speak? Head on over to Sunnyside Tap, and relive the days when all you needed to have a good time was alcohol, TV and Kathy Ireland. Stepping into this wizened Lincoln Square bar is like stepping back in time (to the '80s, to be exact). The walls are plastered with vintage posters for both the Bears and Bud Dry, and spandex is in ample supply. The rest of the bar is similarly old-school, with an emphasis on the old. An unplugged jukebox and a pool table are the only other adornments to this bare-bones establishment. Even the "beer garden" out back is similarly minimalist; a single picnic table sits in the middle of the fenced-in space overlooking the parking lot next door. A bartender whom some might mistake for their grandmother holds court behind the wood-paneled bar. Be warned, she may ask for multiple forms of ID.
Just like Mom and Dad's basement, the selection of alcohol is limited, though there are probably no bottles half-filled with water here. However, there's also no tap, despite the name. Beer drinkers will have to choose from the small collection of bottles behind glass: Birra Tirana, an Albanian import, seems to be the specialty. If that doesn't satisfy, there is a half-full bottle of Jagermeister chilling in the fridge awaiting some eventual thirsty customers. The best news? You're almost assured of having the run of the place no matter what night you come. So stop by, drink up, and don't complain. Back in high school, you wished you had it this good.
