Though it's just one part of a 17-link, nationwide chain, Sullivan's does River North proud, with free nightly jazz combos and slimmer bills than adjacent Viagra Triangle steakhouses, plus half-price bar eats and drinks on Thursdays. Before the smoking ban, the cigar lounge was a celebrity and suit hangout, but now you'll find four dressed-up banquet rooms instead.
The place, decked out in dark cherry oak and old black-and-white snapshots of boxers and post-Prohibition gallivanting, supports a heavy dinner clientele. Come in during lunch, and you're liable to see a few business groups fingering paperwork. Sunday's "Prime Time" $29 three-course special draws some numbers, as well.
Per standard, chops and cuts are a la carte, starting at $29 for an eight-ounce filet, and shooting as high as $36 for a 20-ounce Kansas City strip (with a bone). Sauce lovers, take heed of this advice and dish out the extra $2 for the Gorgonzola garlic butter. And you meatless crusaders dragged along for the ride can take solace in the tomato and mozzarella salad ($7), coated with a balsamic reduction that should be bottled and sold as candy.
