State and Lake may not have the jaw-dropping views that the Wit Hotel's 27th floor Roof lounge offers, or the ultra-modern living room-style seating. However, because State and Lake is usually far less crowded, chances are you'll be able to get a seat - and that's reason enough to stop by for a stiff drink.

Located just off the ground floor entrance of the Wit, State and Lake's interior is as dark as Roof is light: Although some sunshine spills in from the eatery's large windows, the room features soft lighting, lots of rich wood tones and walls upholstered in faux leather. Guests can pull up a seat at the bar and order small bites like chips and a caramelized onion dip or steamed mussels, or get a table and opt for heartier fare like braised short rib or grilled salmon.

Thirsty? State and Lake's relaxed vibe includes a focus on quality brews - the bar has 16 beers on tap. The friendly bartenders are happy to offer food or drink suggestions, and - because it is, after all, a hotel restaurant-bar - food is served all day, every day, seven days a week. Breakfast lasts from 6-11 a.m.; lunch is available from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; a light afternoon menu is served from 2:30-5 p.m. and dinner is available from 5 until close.
