Narcisse, the dated River North spot known for its impressive champagne list and unfortunately gaudy gold decor, is now Rockwell Lounge. Thankfully, the owners of Rockwell decided to do a complete overhaul on the space. It's dark, with lots of stone, exposed brick walls, various black leather couches and deep wood throughout to complement the cool LED lighting system above the bars on both the upper and lower levels.
The space is small, and as soon as you enter you can see the DJ booth, which sits above the dance floor—a nice treat for those who like to know who's providing the soundtrack for the evening. The type of crowd the lounge caters to has also changed; expect unpretentious (if dressed up) clientele, especially on industry night Mondays.
Of course, there's still a guest list-wielding, earpiece-wearing doorman, bottle service, lots of tan bodies and lingerie-clad dancers. But as long as Rockwell offers a reliable, semi-relaxed place to hang in River North on weeknights—and keeps the champagne list—it should remain a popular option in the neighborhood.
