Greektown's plethora of restaurants may appear indistinguishable, but Pegasus is something special. The dining room is bright and airy, and your meal comes with a lovely oceanfront view of the Greek isles. Actually, it's a wall-length mural, but in Chicago it's as close to Greece as it gets. But don't get me wrong, Pegasus ain't just another pretty face. In fact, the mural was a distant memory by the time the food arrived.
Kick off your meal with appetizers from a lengthy list of Greek favorites such as saganaki (Opa!), taramosalata and stuffed grape leaves. The avgolemono (egg-lemon) soup, a given at any Greek restaurant worth its salt, exceeds expectations, and the salads couldn't be fresher. Pegasus offers an impressive range of seafood, lamb dishes, steaks and chops, as well as familiar Greek specialties like kebobs, spanakopita and the finest gyros I've ever tried.
With fair prices, generous portions and hospitable service, you'll want to stick around for dessert; indulgences include baklava, milopita (a Greek version of apple pie), and galactoboureko, a phyllo-wrapped lemon custard that is as much fun to eat as it is to pronounce.
Don't miss out on the rooftop patio (open Memorial Day to Labor Day), which accommodates 160 people and boasts a full bar, live music and a spectacular view of the skyline. The al-fresco menu features an extensive selection of tapas-style appetizers and desserts.
