Editorial Review of Martini Bar

Martini Bar's signature mango martini
Blink twice and you'll miss this quaint lounge nestled deep in the heart of the Financial District. The Martini Bar harks back to the days when the two-martini lunch was more common than an eat-at-your-desk binge. Sure enough, the foundation of its clientele consists of traders and brokers celebrating a good day or commiserating about losing their shirts.

The overall atmosphere pays tribute to the speakeasies of Prohibition. Deep, red-hued woods and rich colors imply a sense of elegance, while the tables, bar and stools all have a classic Art Deco design, perfect for imbibing in comfort. The back bar looks out on the hustle of people entering and leaving the Board of Trade. Over patrons heads hang two amazing, stainless steel chandeliers that look like tumbleweeds.

As the name implies, the bar specializes in the art of the cocktail. Its 37 martinis range from a classic, no-frills Tanqueray dirty, to a saketini made with Bombay Sapphire and sake. The privilege of drinking one of these concoctions will cost you anywhere from $10-$12, so bring a credit card or a bankroll.

It also carries a wide array of wines, beers and cordials. Try an ample serving of Landy XO Cognac ($15), or split a 25-ounce bottle of Chimay with a friend for $22. Most bottled beers cost $4-$6 range; some wines are sold by the glass at around $8-12, but otherwise the wines are priced by the bottle. You can score a bargain merlot for $24 or blow $300 on a bottle of Opus One meritage.
