Though a velvet rope and spiky-haired attendants guard the entrance of the James Hotel's bar, you can expect a genteel welcome as you're ushered inside. Pass through the artsy photo-adorned short foyer and you'll land in the dimly-lit bar, where model-hot bartenders shake up signature libations. Get in the James spirits with the James Hotel Martini, a blue raspberry vodka, lime juice and elderflower cordial concoction, with a raspberry candy rimmer. Candy-lovers who aren't sweet on sugary drinks should opt for the Ketel One Martini, which comes with an olive lollipop.
Score a seat at one of the low-slung leather banquettes and order up a round of high-class nibbles from the neighboring David Burke's. Menu options include lobster spring rolls with Moroccan glaze, crabmeat truffles with poppy seed honey and Kobe sashimi with truffle sauce. For an innovative treat, try David Burke's cheesecake lollipop tree.
With drinks hovering in the $10 range and appetizers averaging at $12, the J Bar isn't a penny-pincher's paradise, but some nightly specials help ease the burden of cost.
