While diners rush to reservations made months ago at swanky restaurants in the Gold Coast, relax at a sports bar just steps from Michigan Avenue and toast with your friends that you're not that stressed out couple scurrying by. This lax, almost out of place bar is popular with the after-work crowd, but on Saturday it's still the same high-fiving, back-slapping scene set to a soundtrack of Springsteen and the Stones. Take advantage of the $5 happy hour menu available Thursday through Saturday from 11 p.m. until 2 a.m.

Instead of worrying about which fork to use, worry about picking up the gigantic portions of bar food without grease sliding onto your lap. The air is thick with barbecue, fried food and laughter, and the red glow of neon beer signs reflected on thick tabletops is as close as you’ll get to roses and hearts here. Several tables are massive enough to fit an entire office full of employees, like a conference table for after-office hours. An abundance of smaller tables and booths ensure there’s always room to sit and enjoy your suds. Or, slide onto a stool at the lengthy bar that spans two rooms. The welcoming rustic vibe is played out with polished plywood, log cabin-like furniture and a giant stone fireplace. With about 30 bottles and numerous taps, you’ll find beer for every palate in your party.
