From a small bar in Durango to a night club in Tijuana, there is something for everyone, and Galher's Cantina is something. But it's not for everyone; like those arriving with just a debit card, and who wish to bring drugs into their bathroom. The signage politely instructs "No drogas en esta lugar!"
Inside the long salmon walls of Galher's is a pool table, three TV's, a jukebox with classics like Elvis Crespo, Azul Azul and Mariah Carey, and a pay phone. Galher's hosts DJs on Friday and Saturday nights and packs a hot dance floor. I suppose you could say there is free live music on Tuesdays. The cantina's owner, Ignacio Estrada, allows a seven-man Mariachi band to practice upstairs. They warm up until they are en fuego and well-heard.
Décor is tropical Christmas lights, a sensual mural of the Aztec calendar and buxom women all dressed up in thongs. The rest of the decor had a postmodern look, like a poster of Demi Moore wearing metallic rose pumps, high-waist support underwear, hairspray and bracelets. Next to Demi is another poster from a previous decade, of an electric blonde covering her naughty bits, ever so sweetly, in electrical tape.
The prices are OK, all beers are $3.25 (or $3.33, because I never did get that quarter back) and the jukebox gives you three plays for a dollar.
