Velveeta is sort of cheese and Fearon’s Public House is sort of an Irish Pub. Within this Lakeview establishment's cherry-wood walls (festooned with Guinness ads, of course), there's a ton of beer-and-soccer-loving good cheer—and not much else that's particularly Irish. A diverse group of barflies holds court by the bar, behind which two lovely lassies pour out everything from Stella to Guinness from the 12 taps.
On my recent visit, an older man with smiling Irish eyes sat beside me, enjoying a plate of Fearon's near-perfect spicy wings. He offered me quite a few of them, in addition to his son's (one of the co-owning cousins of the bar) hand in marriage. Funny, that wasn't on the menu.
There are, however, a number of other not-so-traditional offerings. What's a Caprese Pub Salad, anyway? Turns out it's a caprese salad as you know and (possibly) love it, plus finely sliced and fanned avocados and a selection of meat (beef tenderloin filet, tiger shrimp or grilled chicken) on top. It's a little inauthentic, but a lot delectable. Pair it with some cheddar soup with garlic croutons and you've got yourself a heck of a meal for around $10.
On Wednesdays, Fearon's hosts an open mic night; karaoke rules the space on Thursdays. Whether you're questing for tangy 25-cent wings to munch on during Monday Night Football or you just really love people watching (the bar has a picturesque patio along its south side), Fearon's will surely satisfy. Just don't expect a recreation of your summer abroad in Dublin.
