While the crowds of West Town might be more numerous at any of Division Street's showcase bars, real Ukie Village people know there's only one way to enjoy drinks with friends - a side street bar. While most of its contemporaries lie closer to Damen, Archie’s is one of the few that can be found over the Western divide. And while there are a couple blue light intersections nearby, the neighborhood also exudes tranquility.

Once you approach the door, it might take a second for the owner to open the screen door for you in warmer months – they don't want the pub dog greeting anyone who's not expecting it. Inside, the view of the outside world is filtered through bric-a-brac and antiques – may as well focus on the inside, and the people there. Archie's family is there on both sides of the bar most nights of the week, and the (fairly young) regulars are so friendly you may have trouble figuring out who works there and who's just stopping through.

A pool table in the center of the room, jukebox on the side, and gigantic TV all make sure there's something going on for everyone. Best of all, the beer is dirt cheap – domestic beers are only $2 (and yes, they do have Hamm's), while Goose Island, Fat Tire, and other premium bottles are a mere $3.50. So if you're in the neighborhood, gather up the pocket change and go for a nice walk – chances are you'll end up at Archie's.
