Editorial Review of Timothy O'Toole's

Are you looking for a quiet place to study while you eat, with soothing Kenny G jazz to calm your nerves and clear your head? Or maybe some "fine dining" with silk tablecloths and food you can't spell, pronounce or eat for fear of doing it wrong and embarrassing yourself? If you answered yes to both, then turn around, head back down Fairbanks Street, and find the nearest Starbucks (or some such place), because Timothy O' Toole's is definitely not your dish. But if you favor underground Irish pubs with simple yet tasty bar food, 40-plus televisions of every shape and size, pool tables, darts and plenty of Guinness, this spot is right up your alley.

With a menu that ranges from $3 to $15, you won't have to call your banker in Zurich to wire you funds for the food. Check out the country club sandwich if you want something light and simple—like the sandwich equivalent of Stonehenge, only tastier. Appetizers are standard, but the buffalo wings claim fame and come in an abundance of flavors: mild, spicy, volcanic, traditional buffalo, BBQ and the ever-elusive chipotle BBQ. Then there's the Guinness Blacklist, for those who want Guinness-mixed drinks that aren't quite Guinness. Don't like its traditionally heavy haul or chocolate-with-beef-jerky flavoring? Try the Shandy, a drink that's half Guinness, half Sprite and all refreshing.

Sure, Timothy O' Toole's can be a loud and raucous place when it wants to, but it's so big you'll hardly notice. And if the noise does bother you, try the volcanic buffalo wings to get your mind off things. Frankly, you'll be lucky if you ever notice anything, ever again.
