Sharing a recently-renovated, charming Gold Coast townhouse with a doctor's office and barber shop, Dennis Rosenthal’s cozy gem of a gallery strikes a balance between intimate cultural destination and affable business locale. A likely former living room holds Rosenthal's impressive collection of American and European paintings, prints and photos largely drawn from the mid 20th-century "pre-abstract" movement. Rosenthal exhibits selections from from his permanent collection a few times every year.
For those of you allergic to the dusty annals of art history class, he champions Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, Christo and David Hockney, among many others. The gallery also promotes contemporary artists whose work fits that mold, showing newer work on a temporary, sporadic basis two to three times per year. When I visited, the gallery was preparing the space for an exhibition of Lynn Goldsmith’s digitally manipulated, elaborately autobiographical photos.
In addition to selling you one-of-a-kind contemporary masterpieces, Rosenthal is pleased to offer his appraisal and curatorial services to help commercial and private clients become smarter collectors and consumers. He also offers his clients exclusive access to browsing his personal collection online.
